Avaya DECT R4 Wireless Solution

Avaya DECT R4 is Avaya’s In-building Wireless Communication offer for customers who need a voice wireless solution. (Wireless telephone handset for mobility)

The DECT R4 Edition 4 solution consists of the following:

Four DECT Wireless Handsets
● 3720 for office usage
● 3725 for office and light industrial usage
● 3740 for heavy industrial usage
● 3749 with ATEX approval (Intrinsically Safe), man-down and no movement alarm sensors.

● Two DECT Radio Base Stations with IP interface for usage with Communication Manager and/or IP Office

● Application server (AIWS) for centralized functions like corporate directory, internal phonebook access, simple text messaging, centralized configuration and maintenance, and integration with other external application servers.

● IP DECT Gateway that enables the use of ISDN DECT Radio Base Stations to connect to the IP based interface of Communication Manager and IP Office. This allows customers to reuse their existing digital line wiring.

The DECT R4 solution is especially well suited for verticals like healthcare, retail and manufacturing due to the availability of robust handsets with liquid protection, Bluetooth headset interface and an application server for messaging application.

All handsets and radio base stations support the DECT frequency bands with the same hardware and firmware.

Two new features added in the Edition 4 software update are: SRTP for voice encryption and Push-to-talk.

Radio Base Stations (RBS)
The DECT Radio Base Stations of the DECT R4 System are available with an IP interface supported with Communication Manager and IP Office or ISDN (4-wire cable) interface. The ISDN interface can be used on Communication Manager and IP Office with the use of an IP DECT Gateway for customers wanting to take advantage of the 4-wire cabling with longer wiring distance.

All Radio Base Stations support encryption between the handset and base stations and authentication of the handset against the base station. IP DECT RBS V2 and IP DECT Gateway also support encrypted voice (SRTP) between the base station and the communication system on the IP network. SRTP is available with the Edition 4 software and supported on Communication Manager only.

IP DECT Radio Base Stations (IPBS)
The IP DECT Radio Base Stations can be used with Communication Manager and IP Office. It connects directly to a LAN switch using Ethernet cabling. The IP DECT Radio Base Station can be powered by Power-over-Ethernet or by using external power supply that is available as accessories.

Each IP DECT Radio Base Station can handle up to eight concurrent calls. A special protocol for mobility control ensures that active calls are seamlessly handed over from one IP DECT Radio Base Station to the next if users with active calls roam through a building.

The IP DECT Compact Radio Base Station is specially designed as a cost-effective solution for IP Office customers. Each IP DECT Compact Radio Base Station can handle up to four concurrent calls and up to 5 Compact Radio Base Stations can be supported with IP Office.

To ensure the mobility control protocol works and that the entire building is covered by Radio Base Stations, a site survey is needed to determine the number and optimum placement of the Radio Base Stations within the building. Avaya offers these site surveys as a service by Avaya Professional Services, as well as measurement kits for business partners who want to perform these site surveys on their own.

The mobility control as well as access to the AIWS server is performed by a special software application built-in to every IP DECT Radio Base Station. There is no need for an external server to perform the mobility control function.

There are two different versions of the IP DECT Radio Base Stations, one with internal antennas and one with external antennas. The external antenna version has two dipole antennas included in the package and its use is permitted outside of North America only. Regulation in the US and Canada disallow the use of DECT Radio Base Stations with external antennas. Additional external antennas with different radiation pattern or gain are available as accessories to replace the standard dipole antenna.

All IP DECT Radio Base Stations are designed for indoor usage only. Outdoor housing is available as accessory.

Avaya In-building Wireless Server (AIWS)
The Avaya In-building Wireless Server (AIWS) is a Linux-based application server that adds additional features and functionality to the DECT R4 solution. It is an optional component and is not mandatory for the installation or for the operation of a DECT R4 system.

The additional functions provided by an AIWS server are as follows:
● Centralized software upgrade through over-the-air method (with IP DECT only) or via the Intranet using the advanced charger or rack mount charger.

● Centralized remote handset configuration (including phonebook import) through over-the-air method (with IP DECT only) or via the Intranet using the advanced charger or rack mount charger

● Text messaging server, usable with 3725, 3740 and 3749 handsets.
Text messaging from handset to handset
Text messaging from web interface to handset
Netpage Webmessaging (message reception confirmation, forwarding or unconfirmed messages, etc.) from web interface to handset

● External phonebook access via LDAP and IP Office (TFTP)

● Internal phonebook (500 entries via web interface and 2000 entries via Excel import)

● OAP (Open Access Protocol) is used for integration of 3rd party application servers

● Virtual SIM card to allow backup/restore of individual handset’s configuration

● Push-to-talk (PTT) configuration and PTT call flow support

Spotlight on the Axis Q6042-E PTZ Day/Night Dome Network Camera

The Q6042-E PTZ is an Outdoor, High-Speed Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ), Day/Night Dome Network Camera with 36X Zoom.

Wide area coverage
AXIS Q6042-E is an advanced, outdoor-ready PTZ dome offering Extended D1 resolution, 36x optical zoom, and fast and precise pan/tilt performance for wide area coverage and great detail when zooming in. It is ideal for city surveillance, airports, train stations, harbors and stadiums.

The Q6042-E PTZ provides:

  • Extended D1 resolution and 36x optical zoom
  • Outdoor-ready and Arctic Temperature Control
  • Vandal-resistant and shock detection
  • Electronic image stabilization
  • High Power over Ethernet

Reliable operation
Designed for easy and reliable installation, the camera is vandal-resistant (IK10) and has shock detection, surge protection (railway standard), and protection against dust, rain and snow (IP66 and NEMA 4X). It can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 ºC to 50 ºC (-40 ºF to 122 ºF). The camera’s Arctic Temperature Control ensures safe start-up in extreme cold. In windy conditions, the camera’s electronic image stabilization provides clearer, more useful video and helps reduce the size of video files, which leads to lower bandwidth and storage use.

The robust AXIS Q6042-E is designed for round-the-clock pan/tilt/zoom operation. It can be automatically directed to 256 preset positions using guard tour. AXIS Q6042-E can tilt 20º above the horizon, making it possible for the camera to see higher than its mounting position. This can be useful, for instance, at a stadium where there is a need to look up at the stands.

Intelligent video
Support for Active Gatekeeper enables the camera to automatically move to a preset position when motion is detected in a pre-defined area, and track the detected object. The camera also has substantial capacity for third-party intelligent video applications that are based on the AXIS Camera Application Platform.

AXIS Q6042-E has a built-in memory card slot for local storage of recordings. The camera is powered by High Power over Ethernet using the supplied High PoE midspan.

More Features

  • Supports H.264 Main and Baseline Profiles, as well as Motion JPEG.
  • Advanced security and network management features such as HTTPS encryption with preserved performance, IPv6 and Quality of Service.
  • Open Application Programming Interface (API) for software integration, including VAPIX® from Axis Communications

About Axis
Axis is the market leader in network video and a driving force behind the shift from analog to digital video surveillance, which paves the way for a more secure, smarter and safer world. Axis offers network video solutions for professional installations featuring products and solutions that are based on innovative and open technical platforms.

Axis network video products are installed in public places and areas such as retail chains, airports, trains, motorways, universities, prisons, casinos and banks.

Axis was the first company in the world to launch a network camera in 1996, initiating the shift from analog to digital technology.

Avaya IP Office R9.0 Mobility

Mobility functions for employees working not from the office but mobile are enabled either by the IP Office Power User or the IP Office Mobile Worker license. The mobility functions enabled by these user licenses enhance Mobile Twinning by adding Mobile Call Control through the use of the one-X Mobile Preferred application. Each feature has to be enabled in IP Office Manager for eligible users.

Mobile Twinning (External Twinning)
A typical use for Mobile Twinning would be for a salesperson that has a desk extension but is often out of the office. They only give out their office phone number to clients, but the IP Office Mobile Twinning will ring their mobile/cell phone as well as the desk extension. External mobile devices can be set as twinning targets even if the primary telephone is logged out (e.g. in the case of a “virtual” extension).

one-X ® Mobile Preferred for IP Office
The one-X ® Mobile Preferred for IP Office is a mobile application available for Android Smartphones and iPhone Smartphones.  The one-X ® Mobile Preferred for IP Office application provides rich unified communications capabilities for the mobile workforce and is designed to give mobile users quick access to various forms of communications and help users conduct normal business while on the move.  The application relies on permanent data connection with the communications server and is designed to provide an “always-on” experience delivering asynchronous events of interest to the user as they arrive from the communications server.

one-X ® Mobile Preferred for IP Office – R9.0 ENHANCEMENTS
Mobile VoIP client (one-X Mobile Preferred)
The mobility client has been enhanced to work in a Voice over IP (VoIP) mode. In the VoIP mode, the mobility client can make calls over Wi-Fi/3G/4G data networks. The mobility client, using its underlying SIP stack, will register with the IP Office over the data network and then can function as an office extension on the mobile device. The mobile user can use the mobility client to perform all telephony features. Users in countries where incoming calls are charged will see a significant cost savings in the VoIP mode especially when on Wi-Fi networks.

The availability of both Call-Back and VoIP modes on the mobility client will enable users to toggle between the modes based on their network connections. This will empower end-users to make a choice of the appropriate mode based on their voice/data plan as well as availability and quality of the data connection (WiFi/3G/4G).

The application utilizes a rich user interface available on the mobile platform and makes use of advanced capabilities and hardware commonly available on mobile devices including streaming audio for visual voicemail, speech recognition to issue audible commands and geo-location presence using on-board GPS.

The application provides unified communications capabilities with the following features set:

• Presence and Instant Messaging with server-side buddy lists and server-managed user groups and client side IM history

• Visual voicemail with ability to play voicemail messages and ability to manage voicemail messages from the mobile application

• Rich conference controls with click-to-conference for user or multi-users, entry and exit notifications, ability to view and manage conference participants (mute/unmute, disconnect, lock/unlock)

• Advanced user presence monitoring and reporting including geo-location presence and tracking, calendar and on-the-phone presence, following user’s presence and availability

• Asynchronous voicemail deposit events with ability to listen and intercept voicemail deposits

• Ability to issue commands to the communications server including call, conference, set location, and view missed calls, and listen/pickup

• Enterprise dialing, which is an ability to intercept calls made via standard phone dialer and turn them into enterprise calls (third-party call control by the server)

• Ability to define dial plan rules to select which calls to intercept and ability to post-process the dialed numbers to normalize them to the enterprise dialing plan to make the intercept seamless

• Android home screen widget with summary of outstanding events asynchronously notifies mobile users about events of interest such as – outstanding IM messages, new deposited VM messages, conference participants entry/exits, VM deposits in progress

Avaya IP Office Mobility Solution – Mobile Twinning

If you are always on the road, then you know the challenges of missed calls, phone tag, languishing voice messages, delays in decision making and frustrated customers. You know about the real possibility of a missed transaction and lost revenue.

Equipped with Avaya IP Office Mobile Twinning, you never need to miss an important customer call or a question from someone in the office. And you’ll be able to give customers just a single phone number, your office number, where you can be reached regardless of your location. Personal mobile phone numbers never need to be given out, but all calls ring simultaneously on your desk telephone and your mobile telephone. So if you are at your desk or on your mobile telephone, you’ll get the call. With IP Office Mobile Twinning you maintain the agility that gives you an edge over competitors. Decision-making will be sped-up, quick responses to customers and colleagues will be enabled, and Mobile Twinning will help to ensure that deals close faster with this real-time connection.

Mobile Twinning allows a primary extension and a secondary number (mobile phone number) to operate together as a single telephone, when a call is presented to the primary phone the secondary will ring. If the primary telephone does not ring, for example in Do Not Disturb, the secondary phone will not ring.

The following types of calls are eligible for Mobile Twinning:
• Any Internal Call on a Call Appearance Button
• Internal or External Calls Transferred to your Extension
• Direct Calls to your Extension
• Hunt Group Calls
• Calls Forwarded from another Extension

And the best part about Mobile Twinning is that it’s FREE.  That’s right it comes as a STANDARD FEATURE on IP Office.

Avaya is the official network supplier for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

Are the Olympic Games the pinnacle of sporting achievements—or of technology deployments? It’s not as absurd a question as it sounds. As the official network supplier for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Avaya is building its most ambitious network ever: one that will be virtualized, multiservice, all-IP, fabric-enabled—and able to support tens of thousands of device-toting Olympic employees, volunteers, athletes, media, and others while providing up to 54 terabits per second (Tbps) of bandwidth.

It will be a showcase for Avaya—not only for the fast-growing Russian market, but for the rest of the world as well. Maintaining steady speeds is a notoriously difficult task due to “consumer expectations of always-on Internet and roaming,” wrote Avaya EMEA President Michael Bayer in the Financial Times earlier this summer. But Avaya is up to the challenge. The network in Sochi will authenticate and manage access for all mobile users while ensuring that Wi-Fi speeds remain strong, whether they’re taking “selfie” photos on their smartphones to post on Facebook or downloading real-time streaming HD video on their tablets.

This is the third consecutive Olympic Winter Games for which Avaya or its 2009 acquisition, Nortel Networks, is the official network supplier. Avaya employees working on Sochi say that it is more challenging than Vancouver (2010) and Torino (2006) by far. They also evince total confidence that the Avaya network in Sochi will perform as flawlessly as it has in past Olympics.

Avaya has already won more than 30 Olympic-related commercial contracts that are incremental to its contract with the Organizing Committee. For instance, it is supplying the networking, telephony, and other communications services for the new town being built in the mountains adjacent to where the Olympic skiing, bobsled, biathlon, and other events will be held. Avaya will also supply communications infrastructure and services for developers of the Grand Prix auto races that will take place in Sochi starting in late 2014, says Yunusov, as well as the 2018 World Cup soccer matches that will be held in 11 Russian cities, including Sochi.

About Xima
Xima Software was formed by a group of telephony engineers and tech support personnel. After several years and hundreds of phone system installations, Xima’s founders identified a growing need for inexpensive, accurate, and easy-to-use call reporting and recording software. They needed a reporting suite that would only take a few minutes to install, would show the details of every event that happened on a call instead of just a vague summary, and could report on all users, groups, and trunks without licensing headaches. With those principles in mind, they developed Chronicall. In 2007, Xima spun off from its parent company and began aggressive development on Chronicall. The name Xima was chosen as a modern derivation of the romantic word “cima,” meaning “the top” or “pinnacle.” The name Chronicall represents a strategic merger of accurate and detailed time-keeping with call reporting.
