Make sure you hire a Licensed, Bonded Cabling Contractor

You get what you pay for when hiring a contractor!

For effective and efficient use of network computers and devices, a standards-based infrastructure is needed. Having a data cabling infrastructure that is installed to and uses components that meet industry standards ensures fewer outages and performance problems in the future. Today, people expect 100% uptime from organizations, one of the most efficient uses of monetary resources you can make is to invest in a quality, standards-based data cabling infrastructure.

Regardless of the job, hiring someone with experience is always desirable. Try to find a contractor that specializes in data cabling. Often electrical contractors will “also” offer data cabling services. This is ok, if the electrical contractor has experience or training on data cabling installations. Data cabling is very different from electrical cabling, and proper installation requires specialized knowledge.

Testing every new cable is also very important. Most contractors will test for end-to-end connectivity. This test is good, but it is not enough. It is also important to verify that the cables can carry data. The end-to-end test sends a small signal down the cable to a tester on the other end. This test verifies a clean unbroken connection. But data transmission is a complex process. Cables may pass the end-to-end test with flying colors but fail a data transmission test. Your chosen contractor should have equipment that can test data transmission. Request a report on these tests and have the contractor explain the results. If the contractor does not have such equipment, then it is good idea to look for another contractor.

Avaya 1400 & 1600 Series Phones now have “Global” ICONs

As Avaya evolves their products and solutions they want to ensure you are kept well informed of product changes. Functionality and features, pricing, and lifecycle considerations are all important to understand when deciding how best to invest in a technology solution.

Avaya transitioned the 1400 & 1600 Series Deskphones to a “Global” form factor in 2014.  Those models have been available for purchase since the May 2014 timeframe as a Global device in all regions.

Phones designated as “Global” have the English language text removed from the faceplate. Using the universal language of icons aligns the language of the physical deskphone with the multitude of languages that are supported for the display of the deskphone and in product documentation. Global phones are feature equivalent to the current phone models. With these changes, Avaya made an easy-to-use icon reference guide showing the deskphone functions in all supported languages available on the Avaya Support portal at http://support.avaya.com

During the transition period, supplies of non-Global form factors were limited, and orders could have been automatically converted, without notice, to Global phones.

Enhanced Security
Port Security limits the total number of devices that can access a switch port based on MAC address, and protects against MAC flooding attacks.

IEEE 802.1X port-based or MAC-based access control ensures all users are authorized before being granted access to the network. User authentication is carried out using a standard based RADIUS server, with support for dynamic VLAN assignment.

Simple Management
An embedded user-friendly web interface helps users quickly and simply configure switches. SNMP v1/v2 is supported for management by a network management station. The switch supports management functions over both IPv4 and IPv6. Cable diagnostics identifies cable faults (such as short, open, etc.) and feeds back a distance to the fault. LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) enables administrators to monitor devices attached to switch ports.

PoE Features
The SMCGS10/18/26/50P-Smart can provide up to 30 Watts of power to attached devices, such as VoIP phones, wireless access points, surveillance cameras, etc, all over existing Cat. 5 cables. The switch can deliver up to 30 Watts on 2/4/6/12 ports, 15.4 Watts on 4/8/12/24 ports, or 7.5 Watt s on 8/16/24/48 ports. This eliminates the need for individual power sources for devices in the network, saving on costs for power cables and avoiding power outlet availability issues. If budget, ports can be priori zed to receive power.

Gigabit Web Smart w/wo PoE Switches

Feature-Rich Functionality
VLAN features support flexible network partition and configuration, performance improvement, and cost savings. IGMP snooping prevents flooding of IP multicast traffic and limits bandwidth-intensive video traffic to only the subscribers.

Storm control monitors the amount of storm traffic that is sent every single second on an interface. It allows the administrator to specify how much storm traffic can be sent as a percentage of the total bandwidth of an interface.

Continuous Availability
IEEE 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol provides a loopfree network and redundant links to the core network with rapid convergence, ensuring faster recovery from failed links, and enhancing overall network stability and reliability.

IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) increases bandwidth by automatically aggregating several physical links together as a logical trunk and providing load balancing and fault tolerance for uplink connections.

Comprehensive QoS
Support for eight egress queues per port enable differentiated management of up to eight traffic types. Traffic is priori zed according to 802.1p, DSCP, and TCP/UDP port number, giving op mal performance to real- me applications such as voice and video. Asymmetric bidirectional rate-limiting, per port or per traffic class, preserves network bandwidth and allows maximum control of network resources.

Xima Chronicall Provides Cradle to Grave Reporting

Cradle to Grave
As soon as Chronicall is installed, it begins recording detailed information about every call that enters or leaves your phone network. Cradle to Grave is an intuitive and simple way to view this information. It shows you exactly what happened to any call on your system from beginning to end.

True Cradle to Grave reporting means that you can expand each and every call to view its Ringing, Talking, Queue, Hold, and Transfer events, as well as each agent, hunt group, and external party involved at each step along the way. You can sort, search, filter, and rearrange the tabular data or export it directly to a spreadsheet program for further analysis. Cradle to Grave is just one of many quality tools that separate Chronicall from the competition.

Standard Reports
At Xima Software, we know that collecting information is only as valuable as your ability to find and analyze it. Our developers have created over 50 accurate and vibrant reports, charts, and graphs that utilize everything from the simplest search criteria to some of the most detailed and specific statistics available from any call reporting software. You are free to run these reports as often as you like to find invaluable information on your calls, events, conferences, agents, groups, queues, and trunks.

The Standard Reports module gives you access to these powerful reports and the intuitive Report Scheduler, which tells Chronicall to run reports automatically every hour, day, week, or month and send them to an email address or save them to a file.

Reports can be viewed or saved in many standard formats:

  • Adobe Reader (.pdf)
  • Microsoft Excel (.xls/.csv)
  • OpenOffice.org (.odt)
  • IE / Firefox / Chrome / Opera / Safari (.html)
